New tariffs, new lawsuits

Small businesses and a Vernon Hills toymaker have sued the Trump administration over new tariffs on 60 trade partners, alleging arbitrary enforcement under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The lawsuits follow a prior Supreme Court ruling against similar tariffs. Justice Samuel Alito recused himself 23 times during the 2025-26 term, citing direct stock holdings.
