Canadian hockey sticks, wine and cement subject to new Trump tariffs
President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian products including hockey sticks, wine, and cement, citing retaliatory restrictions on U.S. goods. The tariffs, effective August 19, were authorized under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, a provision unused since the 1940s. The administration also referenced prior illegal tariffs under the IEEPA, which were overturned by the Supreme Court.
