Journalist Francisco Alejandro Leyva was shot dead in San Pablo Etla, Oaxaca, while eating breakfast. He was known for criticizing political corruption and the governor in his column, and federal authorities have taken over the investigation. - Gunmen shoot and kill Mexican journalist in the eastern state of Veracruz
Gunmen killed Mexican journalist Luis Ángel López Valdez in Veracruz, marking the second media worker murder in the state this year. López Valdez, a reporter for Vanguardia de Veracruz, was under state protection and specialized in police and security reporting. Authorities are investigating links between his journalistic work and the attack, while two other journalists in Veracruz remain missing or killed.
