Stray bullet kills mother eating ice cream with daughter in truck, police say

Karla Abarca was killed by a stray bullet while sitting in a truck with her daughter, Lisa, at an intersection. The shooting occurred during a confrontation initiated by suspect Francisco Chairez-Hernandez, who allegedly inhaled nitrous oxide gas, or “whippets.” One of the rifle rounds fired during the altercation struck Abarca.
