Washington state fires destroy hundreds of structures and force Spokane-area residents to evacuate

Wildfires in eastern Washington state, near Spokane, destroyed at least 600 structures and forced the evacuation of 60,000 people. The fires, which burned 12 square miles and were 0% contained, were among dozens across the Western U.S., with similar blazes reported in Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. No injuries were reported, but evacuees included patients from a U.S. Veterans Affairs hospital.
