Genevieve becomes a Category 5 hurricane but is not expected to make landfall

Genevieve became a Category 5 hurricane in the East Pacific, the first in two years, and is expected to remain offshore without making landfall. Hurricane Fausto, meanwhile, weakened to a Category 1 storm near the Hawaiian Islands and is projected to become a tropical storm. Both storms are generating significant surf conditions for coastal regions.
