Genevieve becomes a major Pacific hurricane off Mexico, but no direct threat to land is forecast

Genevieve strengthened into a Category 3 major hurricane in the Pacific with 120 mph winds, remaining southwest of Mexico and posing no direct land threat. Swells from the storm caused dangerous surf and rip currents along Mexico's southwestern coast and southern Baja California. Hurricane Fausto weakened to Category 1 near Hawaii, expected to become a tropical storm but still generating significant surf.
