‘It hits you in the gut’: Detroit nonprofit says 400 pairs of shoes stolen before youth giveaway event

A Detroit nonprofit, Northwest Goldberg Cares, reported the theft of 400 brand-new shoes intended for a youth giveaway event ahead of its HoopFest 2026 community event. The stolen shoes included donations from brands like Nike, Adidas, and USA Basketball, leaving the organization with only 500-600 pairs remaining for its goal of distributing 1,000 pairs to Detroit youth.
