Some schools are paying students $50 a week. Could it help boost attendance?

Some U.S. schools, including Digital Pioneers Academy in Washington, D.C. and Rooted School in New Orleans, are paying students $50 weekly through an unconditional cash assistance program to address chronic absenteeism. Educators aim to improve student wellbeing, focus, and attendance, as national chronic absenteeism rates remain at 22%, higher than pre-pandemic levels.
