Nearly 84% of Detroit district high schoolers were paid for attendance this year

Nearly 84% of Detroit Public School Community District high schoolers received $100 Visa gift cards for perfect attendance in five-day cycles from January 5 to March 20. The program reduced chronic absenteeism by 10 percentage points, from 64% to 54%, with 12,800 students participating. The initiative, adjusted to one-week eligibility cycles this year, disproportionately benefited neighborhood schools compared to application/exam schools.
