Nearly 84% of Detroit district high schoolers were paid for attendance this year

Nearly 84% of Detroit Public School Community District high schoolers received $100 Visa gift cards for perfect attendance in five-day cycles from January 5 to March 20. Chronic absenteeism decreased by 10 percentage points this year compared to 2023-24, with the rate dropping to 54% by April. The program, aimed at reducing absenteeism, saw broader participation in neighborhood schools this year compared to application or exam schools.
