Tropical Storm Lala batters Hawaii with flooding

Tropical Storm Lala (formerly Hurricane Lala) struck the Hawaiian islands with powerful winds and torrential rainfall, causing flash flooding, power outages affecting over 60,000 households, structural damage including two homes swept away, and at least one death. The storm weakened before reaching the islands but still delivered extreme rainfall rates of 3 to 5 inches per hour, particularly impacting the Big Island's Kau District.
