The 425-year-old Grassmayr Bell Foundry in Austria, founded in 1599, uses 3D printing, lasers, and computer simulations to survive modern challenges like rising material costs and declining demand for church bells. Brothers Johannes and Peter Grassmayr lead the foundry, which faces pressures from high bronze prices, energy costs, and fewer church constructions.

Three rehabilitated sea lion pups—Mogul, Bronze, and Missouri—were released back into the ocean near Venice Pier after being treated by the Marine Mammal Care Center for malnourishment. They were rescued in separate incidents earlier this month, including one near the Windward Yacht Center in Marina Del Rey.
