    Court unanimously sides with defendant in criminal venue dispute over where a crime occurs

    The Supreme Court ruled in Abouammo v. United States that federal prosecutors must try defendants in the district where a crime was physically committed, not where its effects were felt. Ahmad Abouammo was convicted of falsifying a document in Seattle to conceal income from Saudi contacts but argued the prosecution in San Francisco was improper venue.
