Pechersk Lavra monastery

Russian forces attacked Kyiv, damaging the Pechersk Lavra monastery and other UNESCO-listed cultural sites. Ukraine responded with a large-scale drone strike targeting Moscow’s oil refinery infrastructure and continued attacking bridges and supply routes into Crimea.

World leaders condemned Russia after an overnight attack damaged Kyiv’s historic Pechersk Lavra Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site. European and US officials accused the strike of showing disregard for cultural and religious heritage, while Moscow denied responsibility, attributing the damage to a Ukrainian Patriot missile.

G7 leaders are set to meet in France to discuss Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran amid Russian attacks on Kyiv, including a strike on the Pechersk Lavra monastery. Russia denied targeting civilian infrastructure, claiming a US-made Patriot missile damaged the site, while the EU announced new sanctions against Russia's military-industrial complex.

Twenty people were injured and Kyiv’s historic Pechersk Lavra monastery was set on fire during a Russian air attack on the Ukrainian capital. Drone and missile strikes caused widespread damage, power outages for hundreds of thousands, and prompted renewed air defenses.
