A Kerala court granted the Crime Branch five-day custody of M.K. Ram, accused in the death of dental student Nithin Raj. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken Dr. Ram into custody for evidence collection and further interrogation.

The prime accused in the Nithin Raj case surrendered to the Crime Branch and was remanded. The Crime Branch sought re-arrest of Dr. Ram after his release by the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court, which ruled the initial arrest in Karnataka violated Supreme Court guidelines.

The death of BDS student Nithin Raj has led Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to demand a report on the 'flawed arrest' of accused Dr. Ram. Chennithala ordered the State Police Chief to conduct a departmental inquiry into the reasons behind the flawed arrest.

M.K. Ram, a former teacher at Kannur Dental College, was arrested after absconding following the High Court's rejection of his anticipatory bail in the Nithin Raj murder case. The court ordered his release due to procedural lapses in his arrest, while Nithin’s family attributes his death to caste-based harassment.

The Kerala government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Ajith Beegum, Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, to investigate the death of dental student Nithin Raj. The SIT will examine overlooked aspects of the case, including potential involvement of other Anjarakandy college faculty members, in the Dalit student’s death.

The Kerala High Court has reserved its order on an anticipatory bail plea by Dr. Ram, accused in the death of BDS student Nithin Raj. Nithin Raj's father opposed the plea, citing non-bailable charges under the Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989, and a sequence of events leading to the student's death.
