A woman doctor, Mahnoor Nasir, was attacked with acid at her hospital in Quetta, Pakistan, sustaining burns to 7% of her body. The suspected perpetrator, Humayun Shah, a lift operator at the facility, was killed by officers at a bus station. The Supreme Court ruled that acid attacks are more heinous than homicide and a tool of patriarchal violence, upholding a life sentence for Abdul Manan, who attacked a woman in Faisalabad. The court recommended establishing a National Acid Survivors’ Rehabilitation Fund to provide medical and psychological support to victims, following an acid attack on a female doctor in Quetta.
