Typhoon Bavi weakened to a tropical storm after making landfall in Zhejiang province, China, but continued to bring strong winds and heavy rain to eastern and northeastern regions. Evacuations affected over 2.2 million people in Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Fujian, while damage included uprooted trees and flight cancellations in Shanghai. In Taiwan, at least 134 injuries were reported due to the storm.

In 2011, the Shanghai–Beijing high-speed rail link began operations. A comparison between the train and an airliner found that while planes were faster, the train offered greater comfort and convenience. The test involved two South China Morning Post reporters traveling from Shanghai at 2:34 PM.
