Authorities in southern Colorado rescued a juvenile bear from an electrified power pole on Rosita Road. The Custer County Sheriff's Office reported that another young bear was also electrocuted at the location. Due to ongoing drought, sightings are increasing, and the public is advised to call Colorado Parks and Wildlife if they spot a bear.

Custer County fire restrictions were downgraded from Stage 3 to Stage 1 effective July 31, following consultations between the sheriff's office, fire protection district, and National Weather Service. Stage 1 restrictions prohibit open burning, fireworks, outdoor smoking, and other activities but allow controlled fires in designated areas.

Custer County in Colorado has implemented Stage 3 Fire Restrictions effective July 9 due to the Aspen Acres Fire, as announced by the Custer County Sheriff's Office.

The Aspen Acres Fire has become the seventh largest wildfire in Colorado history, burning 91,523 acres with 12% containment. The Ferris Fire has burned 47,780 acres at 21% containment, while the Snyder Fire is unaffected by nearby storms. A community meeting for Aspen Acres Fire impacts is scheduled in Pueblo.

Evacuation orders have been issued for residents near Lazy Acres and Bishop Castle on Highway 165 due to the Aspen Acres Fire, which has burned 35 acres. Strong winds and extreme weather are causing two fires to grow rapidly, leading to highway closures and the establishment of evacuation centers in Pueblo County and 4 Bar S for pets and large animals.

Evacuations have been ordered in the Aspen Acres neighborhood and campground in Southeast Custer County due to a fire burning along Highway 165 near Rye. Highway 165 is closed in both directions from the Highway 78 Junction to just south of Lake Isabel, and the Beulah Fire Department is assisting local crews.
