- US military identifies soldier killed disarming a drone in Iraq as a 30-year-old from North Carolina
The U.S. military identified Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a 30-year-old from North Carolina, as the soldier killed during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone in Irbil, Iraq. Swinton, who was assigned to the 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, will posthumously receive the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge and be promoted to staff sergeant. His wife expressed grief over his death, and two other U.S. soldiers were killed in Jordan defending against Iranian attacks.
