Michael Bouchard, a Bronze Star veteran and Republican congressional candidate, secured the GOP primary in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District with an endorsement from President Donald Trump. Bouchard, a military veteran with deployments to Iraq and the U.S. southern border, will challenge Democratic nominee Carl Marlinga in a district previously represented by Rep. John James, who stepped down to pursue a gubernatorial bid.

The U.S. military identified Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a 30-year-old soldier from North Carolina, as the soldier killed while disarming an Iranian drone in Iraq. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge, and promoted to staff sergeant. Two other U.S. soldiers were killed in Jordan defending against Iranian attacks.
