Dexter Kishida, an ex-city worker, was arrested and charged with theft, forgery, and official misconduct for allegedly causing the Hawaii Foodbank to spend $800,000 in a scheme to maximize CARES Act paybacks that were not covered.

A former USAID employee pled guilty to wire-fraud charges related to a CARES Act scheme that enabled him to illegally obtain more than $176,000. Simeon Bakare previously worked on information technology matters for USAID.

Casino owner Andy Sanborn has been charged with misusing over $250,000 in funds from the CARES Act, a federal relief program established during the COVID-19 pandemic. The alleged misuse involves improper allocation of funds intended for business recovery support.

Terry Chen, a 26-year-old from Prince George's County, Maryland, was sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in a CARES Act unemployment insurance fraud conspiracy. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after submitting fraudulent UI claims.
