Breakthrough Urban Ministries

Teens from Chicago's South and West sides participated in an anti-gun violence social media campaign pitch event organized by Project Unloaded and Havas. The six-week program educated students on gun violence, with participants sharing personal experiences and proposing campaigns to address community safety. Last year's winning campaign reached 250,000 teens, and this year's entries focused on deterring violence at events like 'teen takeovers.'

Chicago police and local nonprofits are establishing an emergency assistance center in Garfield Park to support victims of violence following a mass shooting linked to a teen gathering. The incident, which occurred during an Independence Day event, left seven teens and young adults shot, including one in critical condition.
