Amarnath Yatra

Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing severe weather for the third consecutive day, causing massive damage to civilian infrastructure. The J&K administration has closed all educational institutions until July 26 and suspended major pilgrimages, including the Amarnath yatra.

The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended in Jammu and Kashmir as heavy rains trigger flash floods and landslides, resulting in 4 deaths and several missing persons in the Poonch district.

A fresh batch of 7,754 Amarnath pilgrims departed Jammu for Kashmir amid tight security. Since the yatra began on July 2, a total of 87,701 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp.

Four teachers were suspended for 'lapses' during the Amarnath yatra, and suspicious youths were identified using face recognition technology. The Ganderbal administration is closely monitoring on-spot registration of pilgrims via the Baltal route.

Iltija Mufti, a PDP leader, highlights the shrinking Amarnath lingam and expresses concerns over environmental impact. She claims the Amarnath Yatra exceeds the Supreme Court's pilgrim cap and advocates for a sustainable environmental and tourism policy.

Multi-agency mock drills focusing on suicide attacks and calamities were conducted in Kashmir to assess emergency preparedness and response mechanisms ahead of the Amarnath Yatra starting on July 3.

Security measures have been intensified in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of the Kheer Bhawani Mela and Amarnath Yatra. Advance Security Tasking exercises are being conducted to strengthen the security grid and ensure coordination among agencies.

45 mountain rescue teams have been deployed for the Amarnath yatra this year. The teams are positioned to provide rapid response in case of accidents, adverse weather, or emergencies, as stated by DGP Nalin Prabhat.

Amit Shah chairs a meeting to review security preparedness for the 2026 Amarnath Yatra. Police have launched the QR-based 'Pahchan App' to digitally verify workers and vendors along the yatra route.
