Democrats pick their fighter for uphill bid to flip deep-red Senate seat

James Byrd advanced against Billy Benavidez in a Democratic primary race for an open Senate seat in Wyoming. The vacancy was created after incumbent Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis announced she would not seek re-election. Byrd ran on protecting public lands and supporting energy jobs, while his opponent campaigned on individual liberty and reducing the power of the federal government.
