High heat continues through weekend with temperatures reaching upper 90s

Temperatures in the Charlotte metro topped out around 96 degrees on Friday. Due to high humidity, the heat index felt as high as 105–110 degrees. Later in the evening, cooling showers and storms occurred, dropping temperatures into the 70s and 80s.
