Wind-driven wildfire prompts evacuations in eastern Washington

A wind-driven wildfire, the Old Trails Fire, caused evacuations in northwest Spokane, Washington, burning over 4 square miles and threatening residential areas. Strong winds and high temperatures accelerated the blaze, which jumped the Spokane River, destroyed structures, and prompted a state of emergency declared by Gov. Bob Ferguson.
