Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office summer camp aims to steer teens away from trouble

Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office launched a fourth-year summer camp, ESCAPE, to address rising juvenile gun assault incidents. The program, held at an unused jail facility, provides mentorship, personal development, and free activities to over 50 teenagers. Participants reported improved confidence, academic performance, and social skills, with the Sheriff’s Office maintaining year-round relationships with families.
