Tens of thousands of French wildfire evacuees allowed to return home as cooler weather moves in

French authorities allowed 84,000 evacuees to return home in southwest France as cooler weather and rain improved conditions for battling wildfires that have burned 42,000 hectares. Over 220,000 people were displaced since last week, but reduced temperatures and humidity raised hopes of containing the blaze. Firefighting efforts remain active with 2,200 personnel and 20 aircraft deployed.
