Michigan will now have chips added to EBT Bridge cards-- Here’s what’s changing

Michigan has enacted a law requiring chip-enabled Michigan Bridge Cards to enhance security and prevent fraud. The law, signed by Governor Whitmer, mandates compliance with industry standards and future upgrades, with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) given until July 2027 to issue the new cards. Funding of $16.3 million from Public Act 22 of 2025 covers the implementation.
