STAT+: Merck strikes voluntary licensing deals in poor countries for an experimental HIV prevention pill

Merck has entered voluntary royalty-free licensing deals with seven companies to produce generic versions of an experimental HIV prevention pill, alimatravir, in 129 low- and middle-income countries. The agreement allows manufacturers in Africa and India to supply the drug to public and private buyers, aiming to expand access while the medicine undergoes late-stage clinical trials.
