Spain declares an emergency after wildfires force evacuations of 10,000 people

Spain declared a national emergency after wildfires forced the evacuation of 10,000 people in the Madrid region. The fires, exacerbated by a heat wave, have burned over 100,000 hectares this year, including a 32,000-hectare blaze in Guadalajara province. Thirteen people were killed in a fire in southern Spain earlier this month.
