Spain declared a national emergency after wildfires forced the evacuation of 10,000 people in the Madrid region. The interior ministry now oversees firefighting efforts amid a heat wave, with over 100,000 hectares burned this year, including a recent 32,000-hectare fire in Guadalajara. Thirteen people were killed in a southern Spain fire earlier this month.
