The death toll from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela reached 5,069, with 16,740 injured. The hardest-hit area was La Guaira, where recovery operations uncovered more casualties. The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes on June 24 damaged 856 buildings and triggered 1,331 aftershocks.
