Alleged drug kingpin accused of smuggling drugs across US-Mexico border through railway tunnel

Genaro Lopez, a 54-year-old alleged drug trafficker, was arraigned in federal court for using a cross-border tunnel to smuggle drugs into the U.S. from Mexico. Authorities discovered the tunnel in 2022 and seized significant quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl during raids on his stash houses in Chula Vista and National City. Lopez was extradited from Mexico after evading capture for over a year.
