Tamil Nadu moves SC against Madras HC order on backward status of converts to Islam
Tamil Nadu has approached the Supreme Court challenging a Madras High Court order related to the backward status of converts to Islam. A 2024 government order states that converts from Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities, or Scheduled Castes to Islam should be classified as BC (Muslim) to access reservation benefits.
