Human remains found in national park decades ago have been identified
Human remains discovered in Olympic National Park in 2000 were identified in 2024 using advanced DNA testing as Joseph Louis Serrao Jr., a man from Hawaii who had been reported missing. The remains were found in a sleeping bag along the Sol Duc River drainage area and initially determined to be those of a 30-50-year-old man who died 6 months to 4 years prior to discovery. Family members confirmed Serrao was last in contact with them in 1998.
