South Africa: Over 1,800 Child Rape Cases Dropped As DNA Labs Fall Behind
Over 1,800 child rape cases were withdrawn in South Africa between 2020 and 2025 due to slow forensic labs, shortages of rape kits, and lack of a dedicated policy for investigating child rape. Parliament's police committee warned that South African Police Service (SAPS) members allowing case withdrawals may be violating their own rules.
