Why cancer spreads more in middle age than in old age
Researchers discovered that melanoma spread in mice is lowest in young mice, peaks in middle age, and declines again in very old mice. A specific immune cell type appears to regulate cancer dormancy and prevent metastasis, challenging previous assumptions about age-related cancer progression.
