Hun Sen pardons detained Cambodia opposition leader Kem Sokha
Cambodia’s acting head of state, former prime minister Hun Sen, pardoned opposition leader Kem Sokha from a 27-year treason sentence. Kem Sokha was convicted of attempting to overthrow Hun Sen’s government, and the pardon was announced via social media with a royal decree. Hun Sen, who ruled for nearly four decades, transitioned power to his eldest son in 2023.
