Storyline
Extinct Ice Age toad species discovered at La Brea
Researchers identified a previously unknown extinct spadefoot toad species (Spea labreae) at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, based on a bone excavated in 1929. The discovery provides insights into Ice Age climate conditions and represents only the second Ice Age amphibian found in North America.
