Senate blocks Education Department program transfers

A bipartisan Senate committee advanced a bill sponsored by Senator Tim Kaine to prevent the Department of Education from transferring education programs (including special education and Native American education) to other federal agencies via interagency agreements. The measure passed on a 13-9 committee vote with support from both Democrats and Republicans including Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.
