The Kerala Forest Department has stated that Plantation Corporation of Kerala's continued possession of over 3,900 ha of lease-expired forestland is unauthorized. The corporation has leased or subleased portions of the land for pineapple cultivation, which negatively impacts wildlife movement, habitat connectivity, soil stability, water resources, and ecological integrity.
