A £3.7 million 'green bridge' is being built to help snakes and toads safely cross a busy A-road and reach heathland habitats. The project aims to reduce wildlife casualties and protect biodiversity by creating a dedicated crossing structure.

Volunteers who assisted over 1,500 toads in crossing a road to a breeding ground now fear they may have died after a reservoir was drained by a water company. The drained reservoir has raised concerns about the survival of the amphibians.
