    273 teak trees, some over 60 years old, were illegally felled in Chalakudy forest division and sold to a Thiruvananthapuram-based wood industries firm for ₹8.52 lakh, significantly below their assessed value of ₹41.55 lakh. The report indicates the real value could be higher, and the felling was part of State hill highway works on private and assigned lands.
