Chinese scientists have developed a dandelion-like weed called Taraxacum kok-saghyz in Xinjiang to produce natural rubber, potentially reducing China's reliance on imported rubber. The plant grows in saline, alkaline conditions and excretes a milky fluid containing rubber when its root is broken.
