- American marine biologist and conservationist shot dead in the Philippines
American marine biologist Kent Carpenter was shot dead by three masked men during a robbery at his home in the central Philippines. He was a professor at Old Dominion University and had worked with Silliman University on marine research. Police are investigating the motive and identifying the attackers.
