    Benjamin Willis pleaded guilty to DWI and felony death by motor vehicle in a June 2025 crash in Burke County that killed an 8-year-old girl and seriously injured her father. The crash occurred west of Morganton on U.S. 70 when Willis's pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a Kia Forte.
