- Beaches in 2 of Mexico’s most popular coastal destinations deemed unsafe for swimming
Mexico's health regulator Cofepris identified five beaches with unsafe bacteria levels, including Playa del Cuale in Puerto Vallarta and Main Beach in Puerto Escondido. The findings, part of annual pre-summer monitoring, show 98.3% of beaches met health standards, but elevated enterococci levels at the five sites exceeded World Health Organization thresholds.
- Summer travelers warned after fecal bacteria levels in water exceed safety standards
New Jersey swimming areas in Ocean and Cape May counties are under advisories due to elevated fecal bacteria levels, specifically enterococci exceeding state safety standards. The DEP and local health officials are monitoring affected sites, but no closures have been enforced as of June 21.
