Heavy rainfall in the Malnad region of Karnataka has caused rivers to rise, leading authorities to declare school and anganwadi holidays on August 1. The downpours have prompted flood-like conditions in several areas.

Primary schools and anganwadi centres in Koppa, Sringeri taluks, and Balehonnur hobli in Karnataka are closed due to heavy rain. School administrators are required to schedule compensatory full-day classes on a subsequent holiday or Saturday.

The A.P. Food Commission identified lapses at anganwadi centres and welfare hostels, including misuse of food stocks, serving stale food to children, and using expired provisions for mid-day meals. Institutions have been served notices over these violations.

Anganwadi workers are demanding regularisation and the inclusion of LKG-UKG education at Anganwadi centres. The push aims to expand the services offered at these community-based childcare and education facilities.
